Pipeline Routing

Project map
The project currently has alternative routes that we continue to evaluate.

Since spring 2016, more than 38 individual route segments and 111 end-to-end route combinations have been evaluated to identify possible pipeline routes for construction. A multi-disciplinary routing study evaluated and ranked potential routes based on the following factors:

  • Potential environmental impacts
    • Wetlands and water resources
    • Wildlife
    • Historic sites
    • Contaminated soils
  • Potential impacts to the Adams County and Denver communities
    • Residential
    • Business
    • Recreational/park land
    • Education centers/schools/daycares
    • Economic
  • Engineering details
    • Constructability
  • Existence of other utilities and infrastructure along the project routes
    • Railroads
    • Waterlines
    • Underground and overhead electric lines
    • Storm sewer
    • Fiber optics
    • Drainage
  • Transportation

Xcel Energy, Denver Public Works and Adams County have worked collaboratively to identify the proposed pipeline route along Washington Street and 45th Avenue. This proposed pipeline route accommodates future improvements to Washington Street and allows for appropriate space for Denver’s future underground infrastructure needs. As the project continues, additional refinements to the proposed pipeline route may occur based upon engineering and other factors
